Hanging Out in Estes Park

Monday was a lazy recovery day for us; no big plans. Bill worked his eight hours in the loft while I did laundry and Melodye prepared BBQ pulled pork sandwiches for lunch. In the afternoon we checked out the base snow layer at Sprague and Bear Lakes in order to make showshoe plans. There was plenty of snow and wind. We did go (slipping and sliding in the snow) to Bear Lake to get pics.

This is part of a herd of elk we came upon in the Park.

We drove across town late afternoon to find the home of people from Pike County, but we weren't in the 4-wheel drive and couldn't climb to the top of their street. While we sat on the packed snow deciding on the safest course, four or five vehicles gathered below us and just sat there! When they got out of the way, we were able to back down into a drive and return to town.
We are in a driveway waiting for these people to make the hill or back down so we can get out.

We had supper at Ed's Cantina. Good place to get burgers, fries, onion rings, or burritos. The portions are huge enough to share. Don't get the taco salad.

The guys went on their snowshoe adventure Tuesday noon; we gals went shopping. The guys had all they wanted by the time they had circled Bear Lake. There were five- and six-foot drifts and most of the trail was unbroken. Those two things combined for some tough going. The guys were back at the condo in recliners when we gals got back from shopping. In January not all shops are open every day. Some open only on weekends, some are closed for the winter, and others keep shorter hours. I think I followed these two shoppers (Ruth Ann, Melodye) into ALL the open shops. The best one was the place where we got cookies and fudge!

We enjoyed a chili supper at home and visited the rest of the evening. Most turned in early.
