Going Back in Time

Homecoming. Most years our little high school's homecoming has been a time of celebration for the current high school students. The bonfire, the parade, the game, the dance complete with the homecoming court--all geared toward the students. Once every twenty years or so, someone organizes a true homecoming with many events geared toward the alumni. This takes a lot of time, effort, and planning, not to mention getting out the word to the alumni scattered far and near.

This is one of those rare years. Many alumni attended the bonfire on Thursday evening--some were even older than I. The parade, which is usually not very long, was enhanced this year by the addition of past homecoming queens riding in vintage cars. One such lady was the homecoming queen from 1947!

The lady to the left was the 1947 homecoming queen. She has to be nearly 80. I thought it was great that she would consent to ride in the parade. The 2004 homecoming queen riding next to Mrs. Buchanan is her great-granddaughter.

Charollette was one of my classmates and a good friend. She has had such pretty white hair for a lot of years. That's her husband doing the driving. They live in Mexico, MO, and, until about eight years ago, were into race cars.

After all these years this group is still supporting the PHHS Wolves by wearing the blue and gold. Some of these fans are in their 70s and 80s! Hooray for them!

Where have all those years since high school gone? Though it's been decades, it seems only a few years. Lesson for readers: Enjoy each day of your "now" no matter which decade you are in. They all fly by.
