There was a good breakfast to be enjoyed in the lovely breakfast room this morning. We were then soon on the road west as the temperature began to climb. The destination was Lamar, CO, the Lord willing. We wear long-sleeved shirts as protection from the sun, and we were pretty comfortable most of the morning.
After lunch at McDs just east of Wichita, I put on my cooling vest. Wow! Was it a help! Every time we stopped for gas or just to rest, I re-wet it and was good until the next stop. Without it I may not have been able to cover the 500 miles we did today--some of it in 100 degrees. As we began to tire and the heat and humidity continued, the stops were more frequent and seemingly longer. Therefore, we made it into Lamar just before dark.
The BW Cow Palace Inn was a real disappointment after such a great place last night. Oh, well. We grabbed a late supper at the Hickory House down the street before showers and bed. Mountains tomorrow!

Cow Palace Inn???? How funny is that???? What a bummer to have such heat! Ugh! And then to have a sub par hotel... grr. Hope you have a great traveling day today. Praying for good weather.
