To Southern Colorado, Day 1

Nevada, MO, Country Inn & Suites where we stayed

It rained nearly all night and most of the morning! Is this preferable to riding in 90+ degrees? For me, yes! As long as it isn't a downpour with lightning. After all the last-minute things to get done, we met John & Becky at 10:45 and crossed the Mississippi River. For most of the afternoon we rode under overcast skies getting into a small shower just enough to cool me down by getting my riding shirt damp.

The last two hours of the trip today were sunny as my sunburned face (no tinted face shield) and arms revealed. Just because the skies are cloudy does not mean that you can't get sunburned, Linda! You learned that decades ago! I was so heated up by the time we left home that I failed to put on my long-sleeved shirt.

Lunch was at an Arby's--love that roast beef!--and supper was at a Pizza Hut in Nevada, MO. The Country Inn and Suites is one motel that I definitely recommend to any who travel this way. The rooms are great, pool and hot tub wonderful, and people very friendly. We'll enjoy their complementary hot breakfast before we depart in the morning.

At each stop for gas or food or cold drink, we have greatly enjoyed the bantering and the visits. As we ride, Bill and John just automatically switch off leading, AND the leader selects the place to stop or to eat or to stay. Great system; great day. I called family members tonight to let them know we are safely in; then I did the email and blogging thing before turning in. No pictures to post today--perhaps on other days this trip.

Sounds like a good day minus the sunburn! Ouch! Hope you have another good travel day today.
