The day was here. The turkey was thawed and popped into the oven. Sorry, Bryan; I just couldn't risk a smoked-turkey disaster! Your dad will have to practice on an ordinary day. Calls had been made to family members at home. Of course, we had already received an early morning call from son Bryan at 6:00 a.m.!! (It was 8:00 in his time zone.) He wanted to know if "Dad has the turkey in the smoker!" This is Bryan's favorite holiday, so he always smokes their turkey and invites company over.
Anyway, the rest of the morning was filled with more food preparation. Here's the list: stuffing, mashed potatoes, gravy, scalloped corn, yams topped with marshmellows, fresh green salad, homemade bread, and apple pie ala mode. The table with Dee's centerpiece was set by my husband and was very pretty.
When it was time, Bill was called from his recliner and some football game to slice the turkey. He did a good job. I think Butterball is the brand I will always go for from now on. It was juicy, tender, and so-o delicious.

Everything was so delicious, and the company was fun. Had it not been for R & D, I would most likely have been so very homesick and missing our gathering at home more than I did. At least we did talk to parents and our kids by phone.

Before dark we took a drive through the countryside. We spotted a huge herd of elk moving across the fields taking their time and jumping fences as if they owned the place. Naturally, my camera was at home. Sorry.
