Another Departure

Bill and Melodye took off for home this morning. We had a good time while they were here. I've already told about the garage sales--Bill F. managed to get both golf bags as well as two golf carts into the trailer, so it and the bike were tightly packed. When asked what they would do with their heavy jackets once they reached the warm lowlands, Bill's reply was, "We still have our trunk bag that we can put on top!"

See how packed the trike is and the trailer as well?

Preparing to go down the canyon in the chilly morning

While this brother of mine and his wife were here, I learned something about both of them that I may have sensed but had never really brought to the "front of my mind." Melodye says that Bill doesn't like to just sit around even on vacation. And he didn't. Bill just had to clean up the golf carts and bags when we got them home. While my Bill was away and we women were doing something else, brother Bill would ride off alone to the Park or down the canyon to get a close-up look at scenery. One day after telling us that he was going to the Park to watch for wildlife for a couple of hours, he was gone for SIX. I was concerned, but not Melodye. She knows him well. I was glad that I had insisted he take water and snacks along. Bill had so enjoyed his morning that he not only went to Moraine Park and sat awhile, but also went to the visitor's center on top, had coffee, and drank in the views from the cafe windows. And, no, there was no way he could call to let us know--cell phone reception is non-existent once you enter the Park.

At the same time, neither can Melodye just sit and do nothing. I would say to her, "This is your vacation! Why don't you sit awhile and watch TV or read or take a nap?" Her reply was, "I have plenty of energy, and one can sleep when there's nothing else to do." She would keep herself busy baking cookies (which they didn't take with them and which I really don't need to have lying around here), cleaning up the dishes, cleaning their bathroom, vacuuming the upstairs, laundering used sheets, or actually doing something fun for her, like shopping. It is good that the two of them are together.

The one time that Melodye would sit for quite a long time was at a game of Mancala. She'd never played it before, so I taught it to her and she beat me 75% of the time! It's a good thing that I don't mind losing; it's just the fun of the game that I like.

After church on Sunday we went to the Park with our fast food and enjoyed a picnic under the pine trees. We did see some elk before leaving. What a beautiful area Morraine Park is!

I think one week is not enough time to do all they would like to have done here. We visited some favorite places only one time even though we had planned to go again. Some things we never did get to do. Maybe that's why they (and others) will just have to come again and again.
