Tonight is our last night in Estes Park for awhile. We start for home on the motorcycle at daylight tomorrow. When we rode out to CO in July, the temperature hit 102 one day. Without my cooling vest it would have been really difficult for me. In the morning I'll have on layers of clothing to keep warm especially while riding down Big Thompson Canyon. Quite a change in a few weeks.
We love the mountains. Most of the days have been gorgeous though on several days the clouds and/or rain set in for an entire day obscuring our mountain view. Just last week the clouds hid the high country from view, and when the sky cleared the next day, the peaks were snow-covered. How beautiful and how unusual to us to see snow in September! This beauty makes us reluctant to leave. We love to have family visit, and we had plenty of that. It will be pretty quiet at home, I imagine. In addition to that, life seems a bit less stressful when we are here.
I love my home in IL. I look forward to seeing family, being in my larger house, being in my own church, and enjoying the fall colors. Let's face it. Illinois is home and very familiar, and I'm just a homebody. However, when we plan to return to CO, I will be ready to see these Rockies again. Estes Park tourist traffic slows down considerably from fall to spring, and we enjoy the smaller crowds. We will come back late in the fall, once in the winter, and again in the spring. Come see us sometime!

I think I will miss it and I haven't been there in almost a year. SIGH! I guess I will get back out there some time in the next three years when the US Navy doesn't need me so much. I hope you will still have the neat little homey place in Estes.
Oh good, BL didn't use my account this time!! I can't believe that some snow has already fallen! Crazy. I think fall is finally arrived out there. We're in the 70s, soon to be 60s. Yikes! Drive safely, we're thinking of you guys!
